William Fayette Taylor

—In Memorial—

CANHR mourns the loss of Bill Taylor, our friend and colleague, who died in Berkeley on October 9, 2006. We extend our condolences to Bill’s family, his many friends and all of those who worked with Bill over the years.

A public memorial service was held on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at the Berkeley Methodist United Church. Anyone wishing to make a gift in Bill’s honor for his daughter’s education can send a check payable to: "The William F. Taylor Memorial Fund." Send any checks in care of CANHR and we will forward all funds for deposit on a periodic basis.

Cards may be sent to Bill’s family c/o Virginia Bellettini, 2000 Center Street, Ste. 300, Berkeley, CA 94704.

Bill Taylor was a pioneer in nursing home abuse litigation, in resident rights issues and in many other areas affecting our elders. Bill was a part of the CANHR family since its inception in our first office in Berkeley in 1984. Bill was the first attorney to defend CANHR from the nursing home industry, the first member of CANHR’s Lawyer Referral Service Advisory Committee and the recipient of CANHR’s 2006 Attorney Advocate of the Year award. Bill was extraordinarily generous in sharing his expertise with his colleagues and a tireless advocate for justice. He was also brilliant, warm, with an incredible sense of humor and was a true renaissance man.

Words can never express our grief at Bill’s loss. In our hearts, he will always be the "that wonderful crusading young lawyer from Berkeley," as the Berkeley Gray Panthers so aptly described Bill back in 1984, and he will always remain a part of CANHR’s soul.
