Course Description:

This Presentation will discuss the recent news and research on dementia care and the misuse of psychotropic drugs as chemical restraints. Tony will address the misuse of psychotropic drugs on people with dementia, why non-pharmacological approaches lead to better quality of life, and how advocates can pursue policy changes that foster a "least medicating" approach to care. Tena will explain comfort care, as practiced in her own facility, and how it improves the lives of residents and the job satisfaction of staff members.

This Seminar will cover the following Issues:

  • Misuse of Psychotropic Drugs as chemical restraints
  • News and Research on Dementia Care
  • Non-pharmacological approaches to treating dementia
  • Comfort Care
  • Updates on the statewide partnership to improve dementia care

Materials will include CANHR’s Social Worker Tool Kit and CANHR’s booklet: If You Think You Need a Nursing Home, A Consumer’s Guide to Financial Considerations, Medi-Cal Eligibility, CANHR’s Toxic Medicine Guide and an electronic version of the presentation will be emailed to registrants.

Refund Policy

All cancellations must be received by CANHR through email at at least 24 hours prior to the training for which you are registered. Cancellations received after that time will not be eligible for a refund. No refunds will be given to those who register but do not attend the training.

Continuing Education Credits:

Training attendees are eligible for 1.0 hour of CEU credit - Board of Behavioral Sciences Continuing Education Provider Number 1156 for LCSW and MFCC Licensure. We are unable to provide BRN or RCFE credits.
