Course Description:

If you are working in nursing home admissions, hospital discharge planning or with elders in the community, it is imperative that you have current, accurate information about Medi-Cal eligibility and Recovery. Medi-Cal coverage is the payer for nearly two-thirds of the nursing facility population. In addition, as the population ages, issues regarding treatment decisions are becoming prevalent.

This seminar will enable you to:

  1. Understand the eligibility requirements for single and married people, so that you can better help your clients get the benefits they are entitled to;
  2. Ensure that your clients are accurately informed about Medi-Cal Recovery issues; and
  3. Understand the laws and issues related to treatment decisions.

Social Worker Advocacy Program (SWAP):

Time:

Registration on the day of training will start promptly at 8:30am for both events. The trainings will begin at 9am. The Oakland training will run 3 hours and will end at 12noon. The San Jose training will run 2 hours and end at 11am.

Continuing Education Credits:

Training attendees are eligible for 2.0 hours of CEU credit in San Jose and 3.0 hours of CEU credit in Oakland – Board of Behavioral Sciences Continuing Education Provider Number 1156 for LCSW and MFCC Licensure.

Registration Information

Fees & Materials:

The course fee is $40 in San Jose for 2 hours (2 CEUs) or $60 in Oakland for 3 hours (3 CEUs). Please note: All fees MUST be paid in advance. Materials will include all pertinent information on Medi-Cal and CANHR’s Social Worker Tool Kit, which includes CANHR’s booklet: If You Think You Need a Nursing Home, A Consumer’s Guide to Financial Considerations and Medi-Cal Eligibility.

Deadline:

Registration will be closed the day prior to the training. All registration MUST be paid in advance. No walk-in participants will be accepted.

Cancellation Policy:

No refunds will be given.

For Your Comfort:

CANHR suggests you bring a sweater due to fluctuations in room temperature. You will be asked to turn off/silent your cell phone during the session. CANHR prohibits the use of tape recorders without prior approval.

Get off BART at the 12th Street Oakland City Center Station
Use the 11th Street/Broadway exit
The Oakland Conference Center is located on the 7th floor of 1111 Broadway (on the corner of 11th and Broadway (there is a Peet’s Coffee on the first floor visible from the outside)
AC TRANSIT (BUS)

At the San Francisco /Oakland Interchange, take Highway 580 E
Merge onto I-980 W

From Pleasanton/Livermore:
Take Highway 580 to Oakland.
Merge onto I-980 W

Take I-80 W to San Francisco

Travel southbound and transfer to 280N.
