Trusts and Medi-Cal Planning
An overview of trusts in the Medi-Cal setting, in the framework of federal and California law and regulations, hints on how the county welfare workers look at trusts, and suggestions for dealing with revocable, irrevocable, and special needs trusts in your planning practice. We’ll then look at some problem areas and special situations, including the well spouse’s planning for the Medi-Cal spouse, using simple trusts to avoid recovery, and using the court as an eraser of A-B trusts.

This webinar will begin with ABLE Account basics, and then explain their strengths and weaknesses in protecting the public benefits of your clients with a disability (including but not limited to Supplemental Security Income and Medi-Cal). Finally, the webinar will focus on how can prepare for their use in your estate planning and how you can employ them in your practices right now in conjunction with special needs trusts.
