San Francisco — Attorneys filed suit yesterday in San Francisco Superior Court (file # 05-505749) on behalf of relatives of nursing home residents and California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR) to compel California’s Department of Health Services (DHS) to follow California law by investigating complaints against nursing homes on a timely basis.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently signed 2 CANHR sponsored bills, SB 141 (Soto) and SB 244 (Romero), effective January 1st, 2006.
Thanks to all the individuals and organizations that supported these bills.
You have the right to file a complaint about mistreatment of a nursing home resident and to a timely investigation. Any person can file a complaint with the California Department of Health Services, Licensing and Certification Division (LCD).
My son is in a nursing home, and has been a resident there for over 2 years. He has Medi-Cal coverage, and faces an operation soon.
