Spousal Impoverishment Expansion ACWDL 17-25 Released

The Department of Health Care Services released ACWDL 17-25, expanding spousal impoverishment provisions for Home and Community-Based services (HCBS). HCBS waiver programs are for seniors or persons with disabilities who want to stay at home or within their community and who are at high risk for nursing home placement.

Understanding Issues Facing LGBT Older Adults

A new report, Understanding Issues Facing LGBT Older Adults, provides an overview of the unique needs and experiences of LGBT elders. The report, by Movement Advancement Project (MAP) and Advocacy & Services for LGBT Elders (SAGE), is intended for service providers, advocates, the aging network, and policymakers, and includes policy suggestions as well as best practices for serving a population of LGBT elders. Read the Report and see a video and infographics here.

Four non-profit advocacy groups have filed a lawsuit against the State of California for refusing to implement a federal law intended to keep seniors and people with disabilities out of institutions while ensuring that their spouses do not become destitute.
