Feds Out Nursing Homes with High Levels of Restraints & Bedsores

According to the federal government, more than half of California’s nursing homes have high number of residents who are restrained or who have bedsores. The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released a list of nursing homes with these concerns on February 5, 2008, that included 674 California nursing homes, far more than any other state. Although CMS said that it had not made judgments about the quality of care in these facilities, the vast number of facilities identified raises serious concerns about poor care practices in California. California nursing homes physically restrain residents at twice the national rate.
