H.J. Res. 139 Introduced – Would Provide Congressional Disapproval of New Safe Staffing Rules in Nursing Homes

On May 10, 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives introduced H.J. Res. 139, a joint resolution that would halt the new nationwide minimum staffing standards set to be implemented in nursing homes.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, with the endorsement of the Biden-Harris Administration, released the highly anticipated final rule for minimum staffing standards on April 22, 2024. Nursing homes have resisted the enactment of these heightened standards, despite the fact that staffing levels are closely linked to residents’ quality of care.

This joint resolution is just the latest of several congressional efforts to derail the implementation of these standards. Tell Congress to oppose these efforts and support a strong minimum staffing requirement.
