H.R. 7513 Introduced – Would Prohibit Safe Staffing Rules in Nursing Homes

On March 6, 2024, The U.S. The House of Representatives introduced H.R. 7513, a bill that would prohibit The Secretary of Health and Human Services, the federal regulators for Medicare and Medicaid, from creating rules about safe staffing in nursing homes.

This bill comes on the heels of President Biden’s announcement of implementing nationwide minimum staffing standards in nursing homes, which nursing homes have opposed. Studies show staffing levels at nursing homes are closely linked to quality of care of residents. Lower staffing levels lead to poor care, increase hospitalizations, and many times death of residents. Therefore, this latest bill puts nursing home resident’s lives in jeopardy. Tell Congress to support a strong minimum staffing standard.
