Justice in Aging Report: An Illusion of Protection

In a new report, “An Illusion of Protection: Meaningless Federal ‘Quality Measures’ Endanger Assisted Living Residents,” Justice in Aging takes aim at assisted living “performance measures” developed by California related to Medi-Cal assisted living funding. The report concludes that the measures are hidden from the public and mostly meaningless, as they are alternately extremely easy to achieve, trivial, or “hollow.” The report includes important recommendations for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and California to better measure the performance of assisted living facilities that receive Medi-Cal funding, to ensure residents are getting decent care.
